CHAPTER NINE

Ertha never thought she'd be a bridesmaid, yet the low-necked organdy dress did well to accentuate her large breasts. Julie hadn't protested when she'd refused to wear a bra, and that pleased Ertha. Au natural… the only way to fly for a sultry woman like herself.

The dark haired woman yanked up the bodice of her dress, raising her breasts a couple of inches. The organ music began a slow grind and slowly she started up the aisle, heading toward Joshua who was to be her counterpart in this strange play at love. He too, looked awkward in his tuxedo, but it was part of the game, and it pleased Julie; that's what counted.

Love is bizarre, she mused, rocking a little nervously on her high heels as she by-passed the fifth row of church pews. Strange indeed. She wished Julie and Roy well, of course, but she couldn't avoid the feeling of having been shut out somehow. That experience at love with Julie had been a rare one… rare and beautiful as a black pearl. Such passion happens only once, and with Julie it had been special. A tingle of intimate pride raced through her at the realization that she had seen Julie in her darkest moments, her weakest moments, and her strongest. And she, Ertha, had been a part of them all… a catalyst, so to speak.

Looking up, squinting against the colored lights beaming through the stained glass windows, Ertha caught in Joshua's eye a glimmer… a glimmer unlike any she'd seen coming from him before. An incongruous thought struck her: Maybe she, too, could learn to love and forgive as Julie had. She saw Joshua in a different light then and that pleased her. Who could tell, maybe next month the bells would ring for her. Yes, that would make sense of these complexities. Very much sense.
